Meritus University was the Canadian brand name of a for-profit university-owned and operated by the Apollo Group in the United States, the owners of the University of Phoenix. On January 24, 2011, citing how “enrollment will continue to be insufficient to sustain the required quality academic and student service infrastructure we and our students demand”, Meritus University announced its closure, with their last classes having been held on March 14, 2011. The Sabah Foundation, today operationally referred to as the Yayasan Sabah Group was established through Enactment No. 8 of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly in 1966. The strong personality behind its establishment was the Father of Independence of Sabah, the late Tun Datu Haji Mustapha Bin Datu Harun. His vision was to mobilize the people of Sabah towards becoming active partners in the development of the new nation, Malaysia. To realize this vision the Foundation was given a largesse, in the form of prime forestry land.
